Show Racism the Red Card Winners!
Many congratulations go to Mrs Sheldon and her whole Year 4 class who have won first prize in the Media category of the Show Racism the Red Card competition 2012. The class entered a short film that they had made highlighting how they want to see an end to racism and how nasty it is to be unkind to others because of where they come from. The class went to an award ceremony in the Millennium Stadium on 25th April 2012 and were each given a rugby shirt as part of their prize. They even got to meet top rugby players and CBBC presenters! We are very proud of the children recieving an award for passing on such an important message – WELL DONE!
Recycling Assembly
The children in Miss Price, Mrs Heaton and Mrs Williams’s Year 1 classes performed an excellent assembly for their parents and the other children today about why we should recycle. Thanks to Mrs Jones for doing the music for us, and to all the parents who were able to come and support the children. The children were amazing and remebered a huge number of lines as well as songs, poems and dances to wow their parents with what they had learnt. We were very proud!
Healthy Harry visits Sully School
The Vale’s healthy eating mascot, Healthy Harry, visited the school on Monday to give the children information about how to eat healthily and to exercise safely. The children thoroughly enjoyed Harry playing with them in the playgrounds and seeing what they were eating for the snack! The visit was organised as part of the school’s ECO-Schools and Healthy Schools programmes and will hopefully continue to raise the issue of healthy eating with the children. If you would like any information on how to pack a healthy lunch for your child or on what children eat as part of their school lunches, please see Miss Price or look at the Vale of Glamorgan website for school meal information.
£2340.64 raised for Sport Relief!
The incredible amount of £2640.64 has been raised this year for Sport Relief. It is a truly amazing sum and thank you to everyone who was able to contribute to make the day and the total such a success. The children ran a sponsored mile around the school playing field, as well as taking part in Circle Times and discussions about where the money goes. Your help will really make a difference to so many people.
World Book Day
Sully school have had lots of excitement celebrating World Book Day 2012 and and St. David’s day. The whole school has been involved and lots of fun was had by all. Sully newspaper club enjoyed reporting on all of the events taking place and took lots of photographs and videos. On Thursday 23rd March, the Foundation Phase had an afternoon of activities. In Mrs. Heaton’s class they read ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’ by best selling author Julia Donaldson. This was a real favourite. In Miss Price’s class the children read ‘Each peach pear plum’ and had lots of fun. The children in Mrs Williams class were reading ‘Winnie the witch’ and were having a great time. Mrs Perry read ‘The three little pigs’ and they were all laughing lots. Mrs Marks’s class were having lots and lots of fun reading ‘Posy’, one of her favourite books.
On Friday 24th March Key Stage 2 took part in Sully school’s first ever enrichment afternoon based around activities to celebrate World Book Day. This meant that the children from y3 to y6 had the choice to do an activity that they wanted, work with a different teacher for the afternoon and take part in various activities as diverse as writing and performing raps to creating cartoons on the computer. Older children had a chance to work with younger children with many hoping not to bump into their older brother or sister!! Also many children had the chance to try activities that they may have never have done before. Mrs Martin had a group of children of all different ages who were designing their own cartoon storyboards! Mr Blasizza had children working on cartoon comic strips using a cool program called ToonDoo. In Mrs Eaton’s Y3 class the children enjoyed making wonderful shape poems, which were fantastic. We were very lucky that Mrs Sheldon had agreed to use her great choreographing skills to transform a group of children into amazing dancers, they all turned The Gruffalo into a fluent fantastic dance. All the way at the other side of the school Miss Johns was showing off her coolness as she guided children to write their own raps which they performed. Miss Evans was also showing off her musical skills to make a masterpiece fitting music to film. So it is confirmed that everyone enjoyed this part of World Book Day but there was more to come!
As part of St David’s Day celebrations at Sully the literacy links continued when every class in the school took part in a Welsh story telling afternoon. Performances included traditional tales, new compositions and poetry all with actions and expression. It was a very entertaining, energetic afternoon and all the teachers were very impressed with all the children. Thank you to everyone who worked hard to make World Book Day and St David’s Day a Sully success!
